newTunes Addendum

Jim George, creator of the newTunes widget I talked about earlier, contacted me to help me figure out what the problem was. It turns out that the issue was due (and I must admit, I suspected this may be the issue, but was not invested enough to move things around to try) to my music collection being in a strange place. I keep a lot of things in my shared user area, and alias it out to my particular login. This has many advantages, and putting an alias to my iTunes folder in my ~/user/music folder works fine for iTunes, the widget didn’t like it as much.

The widget works quite well, and is fast. The only drawback is the sheer amount of results, largely created (in my case) from imports and such. This is, I imagine, more an issue of the Amazon API than the widget itself. It’s still quite useful, and Jim mentioned he’d probably allow the user to specify where his or her music collection is in the future. So, I can’t really use it until then, but I look forward to doing so.

Kudos to Jim for being so interested in helping his users!
